After Sheikh Hasina was removed, the protesters tried to demolish the large statue of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Bangladesh has started issuing new bank notes from Sunday, in which there will no longer be a picture of former Prime Minister and Father of the Nation, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who is also the father of Aurated Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, was painted on all notes of Bangladeshi currency. After Sheikh Hasina’s oust from power and political crisis in the country, Bangladesh Bank announced last year that he would work towards issuing new notes.

“Human pictures will not be seen in notes”

Speaking to the news agency AFP, Bangladesh Bank spokesman Arif Hussain Khan said that the new currency will focus on displaying natural scenes and historical sites of Bangladesh. “Under the new series and design, notes will not be shown any human picture, but rather natural scenes and traditional sites will be displayed in the notes,” Khan said.

Bangladesh Bank issued notes

According to the AFP report, bank notes will include pictures of Hindu and Buddhist temples, artifacts of late Zainul Abedin (famous Bengali painter) and National Martyr Memorial, which are created in honor of those who lost their lives during the 1971 liberation struggle. Bangladesh Bank has issued three different value notes. Arif Hussain Khan further said, “The new notes will be issued from the headquarters of the central bank and later from other offices across the country. The new design will be issued in the notes of other price class notes.”

Last change in Bangladeshi currency

This is not the first time Bangladesh has changed its currency. In 1972, the country changed its currency after freedom from Pakistan. The map of the newly formed nation was shown in these notes. After these initial notes, a picture of Awami League leader Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was printed in the new price class. During the tenure of other parties like Bangladesh Nationalist Party, currency included historical and archaeological sites.
