Rajasthan News Desk!!! Ravindra Kaushik was an Indian spy whose name would be known to very few people in India. Born in 1952 in a Punjabi family in Sriganganagar, Rajasthan, Kaushik never thought that he would become the greatest spy in the history of India. He was fond of theater since his teenage years. Once during the theater a RAW officer’s eyes fell on him.

After this his life took a different turn. Born in an ordinary family of Rajasthan, Ravindra Kaushik had parents and a brother. Kaushik was very interested in theater since childhood. Once he was performing in the theater when RAW saw him. After which the story of him becoming ‘India’s greatest spy’ began.

But the story of why the RAW members were impressed by his acting during the theater is also very interesting. Actually, his mono-act in which he was playing the role of an Indian Army officer. The story was that after being caught by the Chinese Army he had refused to give important information related to India, RAW officers were very happy with his performance. After being selected by RAW, he had to undergo rigorous training for 2 years. The year 1975, when he was sent to Pakistan for a mission for the first time. His job was to secretly send important information from Pakistan to India. RAW (R&AW) made him ‘Nabi Ahmed Shakir’ and sent him to Pakistan. But the story does not end here.

After reaching Pakistan with the fake name ‘Nabi Ahmed Shakir’, he first took admission in the ‘Law University’ of Karachi. After successfully graduating from there, he got a job as a commissioned officer in the Pakistan Army. He was later promoted to the rank of ‘Major’ in the Pakistan Army. The then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was pleased with his work and called him ‘Black Tiger’. Ravindra Kaushik also married a local girl in Pakistan. He also became the father of a daughter. From 1979 to 1983, he sent important information from Pakistan. Due to which RAW got a lot of help in strengthening India’s defense strategy. His life was going quite well, but then came that fateful year of 1983 when everything changed.

In 1983, when Indian spy Inayat Masih was crossing the border, she was caught by the Pakistani army. During the interrogation of Pakistani Army, he revealed the secret of Ravindra Kaushik. Kaushik was arrested on charges of espionage and put in Multan jail.
Ravindra was sentenced to death but the Supreme Court of Pakistan changed his sentence to life imprisonment. He died of a heart attack in 2001. While reading the letter written by Ravindra, his brother said that brother Ravindra Kaushik wrote, ‘Is this what those who sacrifice for a great country like India get? It is known that the Indian government did nothing for their release, just left them to their fate.
