How many types of sessions are there in Parliament?

The monsoon session of Parliament is going to start from July 21. In this session, the Central Government has planned to introduce and pass several important bills. The monsoon session will run from July 21 to August 21, although the Parliament will not be proceeded with the Independence Day celebrations on 13 and 14 August. Explain that the Central Government is preparing to bring several bills in the Lok Sabha in this session, including the GST (Amendment) Bill 2025 and the Taxation Act (Amendment) Bill 2025. There are a total of three of the Parliament session in India, budget session, monsoon session and winter session.

Budget session

The budget session is the most important session of Parliament, which usually runs from February to May. In this, the government presents the Union Budget for the financial year. This session takes place in two phases: budget presentation and general discussion in the first phase, and discussion on the Appropriation Bill and Finance Bill in the second phase. During this time, allocation of funds for various ministries is discussed. The President’s address also occurs in the beginning of this session, which mentions the policies and plans of the government. This session plays an important role in shaping national economic policies.

Monsoon session

The monsoon session is usually held from July to August or September. This session focuses on legislative functions and policy issues. Various bills are introduced in it, and Members of Parliament discuss government policies, social issues and matters of public interest. MPs raise important issues during the Question Hour and Zero Hour in the monsoon session. This session pays special attention to seasonal issues such as agriculture, water management and infrastructure. During this time the government tries to pass new laws and review the existing policies.

Winter session

The winter session runs from November to December and is the last major session of Parliament. This session focuses on legislative functions, policy reviews and public interest issues. Many important bills are introduced and passed in it. MPs discuss various national and international issues. In the Question Hour and Zero Hour, MPs seek answers from the government. This session can be smaller due to being in cold weather, but its importance is not less. Social, economic and political issues are intensively discussed in the winter session.
