How to worship Lord Buddha on Buddha Purnima

1. In the morning: Wake up early in the morning and take a bath and wear clean clothes.
• Go to Vihara (Buddhist monastery): If you have a Buddhist Vihara around you, then go there.

2. Vandana and Pooja:
• Buddha Vandana: Vand to Lord Buddha. You can recite Triratna Vandana (Buddha Saranam Gachhami, Dhamma Saran Gachhami, Sanghan Saranam Gachhami).
• Flower and incense offer: Offer fresh white or light colored flowers and aromatic sunlight on the statue of Lord Buddha.
• Light the lamp: Light a lamp in front of Lord Buddha, which symbolizes the light of knowledge.
• Water offering: Fill pure water in a vessel and offer it to Lord Buddha. It is a symbol of peace and purity.
• Greetings: In front of the statue of Lord Buddha, bow down with reverence, bow to them and seek their blessings.
3. Meditation and contemplation:
• Meditate: Sit with a calm mind and meditate while remembering the teachings of Lord Buddha. You can practice meditation methods like Vipassana or Anapanasati.
• Teaching text: Read or listen to the major teachings of Lord Buddha like Ashtangik path, four Arya Truth etc.

4. Dan and Service:
• Donate: Donating to the poor, needy and monks on this day is considered very virtuous. You can donate food, clothes, medicines or other essential items.

• Compassion towards organisms: Do not hurt any creature. Help a destitute animal if possible.
5. Ethical conduct:
• Follow Panchsheel: On this day, especially Panchsheel i.e. 5 moral principles- do not commit violence, not stealing, not commiting adultery, lying and not to follow drugs.
• Positive thoughts: Maintain positive and welfare ideas in your mind.
6. Do these special activities today:
• Listen to the discourse: Listen carefully to the sermons organized in Vihar or Buddhist monastery.
• Orbits: Orbit the Buddha statue or stupa.
• Collective Prayer: Participate in collective prayer.
