Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Vishwa Sharma dismissed the demand of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, which was asked to file a ‘Hate Speech’ case against him and resign. Jamiat had demanded this demand about the eviction action going on in the state, due to which thousands of people have become homeless. Sharma, while launching a scathing attack on Mahmud Madani, the president of Jamiat, said that if he gets Madani, he will send him to Bangladesh. Speaking to reporters during an event in Morigaon, Sharma said, ‘I show Jamiat my’ old finger ‘.’

What is the meaning of showing an old finger?

Explain that showing ‘old finger’ in Assamese means to ignore someone’s demand or talk completely. He insisted, ‘I have Assamese blood, strength and courage in this finger. I do not care at all about what Jamiat is demanding. ‘ Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind established in 1919 is considered to be the largest and influential institution of Muslims of India. The organization had expressed concern over the eviction of Assam in Assam on Wednesday in a meeting of its executive committee. About 50,000 families have become homeless in this action, mostly Bengali -speaking Muslims.

Jamiat had passed on Himanta

Jamiat passed a resolution and appealed to the President of India and the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court to immediately remove Himant Vishwa Sharma and take legal action against him for hate speech. In response to this, Sharma said, ‘Who will be the Chief Minister of Assam, it will decide the people of Assam, not the president of Jamiat, Mahmud Madani. I would just say that I do not care about Jamiat or anyone else. ‘ He also said that if someone attacks the Chief Minister of Assam, irrespective of the party, the people of Assam will oppose it, because the Chief Minister has been chosen by the people and not Jamiat.

‘Congress leaders are government of unknown people’

Sharma called the Congress a ‘B-Team’ of Jamiat and said that the Congress did not make a single statement on the issue. He said, “When the semiconductor facility came in Jagirod, the son of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge opposed it and the leaders of Assam Congress also said yes to him.” Sharma described the Congress leaders of Assam as ‘Sardar of unknown people’ and said that they are not representatives of the original Assamese people, but want to live with ‘unknown people’. However, Sharma did not clarify what he means by ‘unknown people’ in his statement.

Sharma is taking a tough stance on eviction

Significantly, in his speech of Independence Day, he also mentioned ‘unknown people’, which was considered a gesture to Bengali -speaking Muslims. In fact, the action of eviction has intensified in Assam in recent months, under which illegal settlements are being removed. Jamiat claims that most of the Bengali -speaking Muslims have been affected in this action, many of whom have been living in Assam for decades. Tension is increasing between the Assam government and various organizations on this issue. At the same time, it is clear from Sharma’s attitude that he is not ready to bow under any pressure and his government’s attitude on this issue will be strict. (PTI)
