Chief Justice of India (CJI) B.K. R. Gawai said on Friday that he would not accept any post after retirement. He was addressing the reception held at his native village Darapur in Amravati district of Maharashtra. The CJI said, “I have decided that I will not accept any government post after retirement … I will get more time after retirement, so I will try to spend more time in Darapur, Amravati and Nagpur.”
‘No responsibility should be taken after the post of CJI’
Let me tell you that before this, Justice Gawai also refused to take entry in politics after retiring. During a conversation with the media, he said, “After holding the post of CJI, the person should not take any responsibility. After retirement, judges accept government posts or contest elections, then it sends a wrong message. People may lose trust in the judiciary.
At the same time, on the misuse of social media, he had said, “I do not follow social media, but I also believe that Justice cannot sit in his homes and give decisions.” We have to understand the issues of the common man. ”
When will Gawai retire?
Justice Gawai will retire in November this year. Earlier in the day, a large crowd of people welcomed the Chief Justice when he reached the village. He laid a wreath at the memorial of his father, former Governor of Kerala and Bihar RS Gawai and attended the event organized on his death anniversary with some family members. Gawai also laid the foundation stone of a grand door to be built on the path of Darapur, named R.S. Will be named after Gawai.
