Dharamgarh: IAS officer and sub-collector of Dharamgarh Dhiman Chakma has been suspended with immediate effect. He was caught red handed by Odisha Vigilance officials taking a bribe of Rs 10 lakh. After this, his house was raided, in which additional cash of Rs 47 lakh was recovered.

Arrest was done on Sunday

Odisha Viganance arrested a 2021 batch IAS officer Dhiman Chakma (36) on Sunday for taking a bribe of Rs 10 lakh from a businessman in Kalahandi district. After this, during the search of his government residence, Vigilance officials also recovered a unaccounted cash of Rs 47 lakh. Media reports revealed that Chakma, a resident of Tripura, had placed currency notes in the table of the table at his residence. After this, the administration started clamping down on the dodge.

A businessman lodged a complaint against Chakma

The businessman who filed a complaint against Chakma had alleged that the IAS officer had threatened to take action against his business for not paying the amount sought. According to the complaint, the sub-sector called him at his government residence in Dharamgarh, Odisha, took the amount of bribe and put him in a table.

The news agency PTI quoted the vigilance department as saying that Chakma called the complainant to his government residence in Dharamgarh, took the amount of bribe and kept him in the drawer of his table. The officer allegedly counted all 26 bundles of 100 rupee notes of different price classes and then put the cash in the drawer of his housing office. The Vigilance Department also recovered cash worth about Rs 47 lakh during a search from his official residence. After the arrest of the IAS officer and the cash was recovered from his house, a case was registered against him under the relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.

Let us know that after passing the UPSC exam in 2021, Dhiman Chakma gave an interview to ANI, in which he vowed to work for the welfare of society, especially north-eastern states. But now that they are accused of corruption, people are questioning their honesty.
