ICC reprimanded Sri Lanka, imposed strong fine for slow over rate

Jeff Crowe of ICC Elite Panel of Match Referee imposed the fine. The visiting team had thrown one over less than the scheduled time frame, due to which he has been fined. According to Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for players and players associate staff, the minimum over speeds are related to crimes, the players are fined five percent of their match fees for each over for not bowling within the stipulated time.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) said in its statement on Sunday, “Captain Charit Asanka accepted the crime and accepted the proposed punishment, so there was no need for a formal hearing.”

After winning the first ODI by 7 runs, Sri Lanka continued its victory campaign in the second ODI. After receiving the first batting, Zimbabwe scored 277 runs at the loss of 7 wickets in the prescribed 50 overs, in which Sikander Raza scored an unbeaten 59 in 55 balls. Apart from this, Clive Madande contributed 46 runs.

In response to this, Sri Lanka won at the loss of 5 wickets while remaining 3 balls. Opening batsman Pathum Nisanka scored 122 runs in 136 balls with the help of 16 fours in 136 balls. Captain Charith Asalanka scored 71 runs in 61 balls, in which he hit 7 fours.
