While giving the verdict related to land acquisition, the Supreme Court said that Indian law gives a person the right to assert his rights on the land for 12 years. If any land is disputed, any person can file a lawsuit claiming his rights over it and get it back from the court within 12 years. Let us tell you that under the Limitation Act, 1963, there is a right to claim ownership of private property. The time limit for land is 12 years, whereas on government land this limit is 30 years. A complaint of forcible possession will have to be filed within 12 years.
