Research was done on gym machines in which 362 times more bacteria were found than toilet seats. Research found millions of germs per square inch on each machine. At the same time, there were 74 times more bacteria on the treadmill than in the public toilet. This study is becoming a topic of discussion worldwide. Live bacteria found in the gym- According to World of Statista, about 50 lakh Indians go to the gym. Since many people come to the gym and use the same machine, many types of bacteria start growing on these machines. In a health research, 30% live bacteria were found on gym equipment, floors and yoga mats.

Risk of skin infection- Gym can cause a fungal infection called ringworm. Due to this, round shaped rashes start appearing on the scalp and body which are red in colour. It also causes itching. If someone in the gym has eczema or cirrhosis and his skin falls off like scales, if he comes in contact with someone, then the other person can also get this skin disease. Athlete’s foot can also occur from the gym. Due to sweating of the feet, the skin of the thumb becomes thick. It also causes itching. This happens due to feet remaining wet for a long time. People who go swimming also have this problem. Some people get plantar warts. In this, a lump forms in the heel of the foot.

Mat sweat can make you sick- In the gym, most of the infections spread through the mat because everyone’s sweat is on it. When sweat of one person comes in contact with the body of another person, bacterial infection is certain to occur. Similarly, scalp infection can also occur.

Wash hands before and after workout- Most infections spread through hands, so always wash hands with soap before and after working out in the gym. Many people take hot shower, sleep or steam bath in the gym, one should avoid taking steam room or bath in the gym. Due to being wet, more bacteria are active in these places.

Wear full clothes in the gym- According to the guidelines of the American Academy of Dermatology, you sweat a lot in the gym, so always wear loose fitting clothes with full sleeves. Never work out in the gym without taking off your shoes. Sanitize the machine, dumpling or mat yourself before using each equipment. For this, always keep sanitizer spray with you. Do not wear sweaty clothes for long after coming from the gym. After coming home, take a bath immediately and wash gym clothes separately from other clothes. If there is any cut or wound on the body, keep it covered. Never share your towel, soap, shoes or slippers with anyone in the gym.

Respiratory disease can trouble you
Respiratory diseases also spread rapidly in gyms. If someone has flu in the gym, then this virus reaches the lungs through the nose or throat and the person starts complaining of cold. Viral fever also spreads rapidly. If someone has a cold, he should avoid going to the gym. It is better that he works out for a few days outdoors i.e. in the park or on the terrace.

Stay away from eye infections- Sometimes gym also becomes the cause of eye infection. In fact, when the bacteria and viruses growing here come into contact with the hands and someone touches his eyes without washing his hands, then the risk of eye infection increases. When people sweat in the gym, many times the sweat gets into the eyes, which causes irritation and people start rubbing their eyes.
