When reported that India and Pakistan had agreed to the ceasefire, Ponting who had already rode on the flight took a bold decision. He got off his flight in Delhi and decided to stay in India.

Not only this, he did not stop here. He knew that the foreign players of Punjab Kings were worried, so the head coach convinced him to return. Plank Kings CEO Satish Menon quoted PTI as saying, “This reflects the character of Ricky Ponting. Only he could do so.”

The players of Punjab Kings were brought from Dharamshala to Jalandhar and then Delhi. Many players, including Marcus Stoinis, Aaron Hardy, Josh England and Xavier Bartlet, wanted to leave immediately. Stoinis were specially ready to go. But Ponting talked to him heartily, calmed his fear and persuaded him to stay for the IPL.

On Sunday, BCCI has prepared a new schedule and venue for the remaining matches, which they will soon share with the teams. Due to most of its Indian and foreign players being still in India, Punjab Kings is ready to return to the ground. Punjab Kings are currently ranked third in the points table. He has won seven of the eleven matches played and two matches have been canceled. They are far away from making a place in the playoffs. Interestingly, this will be the first time after 2014 when PBKS will make it to the top four.
