Washington: US President Donald Trump has taken a big step. Trump has signed a government order to prevent almost all foreign students wishing to study at Harvard University in the country. This is his new attempt to keep international students away from ‘Ivy League School’. The ‘Ivy League’ is a group of 8 reputed private universities in the US including Harvard University.
Trump wrote in the order
The government order announced that it would be a threat to national security to allow Harvard to admit foreign students to his premises in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Trump wrote in the order, “I have decided that the entry of the class of foreign nationals is harmful to the interests of America because in my view, Harvard’s conduct has made it a inappropriate destination for foreign students and researchers.” This step of Donald Trump is another step towards the conflict of White House with the country’s oldest and wealthiest university.

Trump has cited a comprehensive federal law that gives the President the right to stop foreigners whose entry can be ‘harmful to America’s interests’. Citing this authority on Wednesday, he also announced that citizens of 12 countries would be prohibited from coming to America and there will be some restrictions on citizens of seven other countries.

Trump’s Harvard order also cites several other laws, including a law banning foreigners associated with terrorist organizations. Harvard said in a statement on Wednesday night that he would ‘continue to protect his international students’. University officials said, “This is another illegal retaliation taken by the administration, violating Harvard’s first amendment rights.” (AP)
