Speaker Om Birla approved the impeachment motion in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday against Justice Yashwant Verma of Allahabad High Court in the cash scandal case. The speaker said, “I have received a proposal with a total of 146 members, including Ravi Shankar Prasad and the Leader of the Opposition.”
He said that in this proposal, there is a demand to remove Justice Yashwant Verma of Allahabad High Court from the post. The speaker announced a 3 -member committee for investigation. This includes 1-1 judges of the Supreme Court, High Court and 1 legalist. This impeachment motion will be pending till the report of the inquiry committee arrives.
Speaker Birla said- Facts are pointing to corruption
‘We have studied the provisions of the Judge Investigation Act. We have also kept information about the declared laws of the Supreme Court as well as many other decisions. The Supreme Court has found the complaint of serious nature. Followed the inhouse process. ‘
‘CJI, after considering the matter, made an opinion on Justice Verma’s response and the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court that intensive investigation on it is necessary. Hence a 3 -member committee was formed.
‘We remember that the then CJI has sent this report to the PM and the President. It has also been said that in this case, he has worked according to the pre -provisions. In the report of the committee, the allegations are of nature that there is a need to initiate the action to remove Justice Verma.
After independent investigation, we have come to know that the process of removing the judge under Article 124 of the Constitution of India should be started according to the rules. The impeccable character is the foundation of a man’s faith in the judiciary. The facts related to the current case point towards corruption and motivate them to take action.
‘Under Article 124 of the Constitution, Allahabad High Court Judge proposes to remove Justice Verma from the post. Further action should be taken on this. Finding it appropriate, I have approved it. I have formed a 3 -member committee to investigate the allegations of removing Justice Verma from the post. The committee consists of Supreme Court Judge Justice Arvind Kumar, Madras High Court Chief Justice Maninder Mohan Srivastava and Senior Advocate Biwi Acharya of Karnataka High Court.
