Former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan
Lahore: Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has suffered a major setback. A court here on Thursday sentenced 166 members including some MPs of former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s party in connection with the attack on ISI Bhawan and other military establishments in Punjab province on May 9, 2023. The news of Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders has come across the country just a week before the commencement of the proposed ‘Free Imran Khan Movement’ across the country from August 5.
PTI condemns the decision
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has strongly condemned the decision of the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC). Khan’s party described it as part of the conspiracy to disqualify its MPs from Parliament and stop the party from committing peaceful protests. The court has sentenced Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Omar Ayub, Leader of Opposition in the Senate, Shibli Faraj, PTI prominent leaders Jartaj Gul and Sahibzada Hamid Raza to 10-10 years.
The court sentenced
The court on Thursday convicted 108 out of 185 accused in the case of attack on ISI Bhavan in Faisalabad and acquitted the remaining 77. 58 accused have been sentenced to 10-10 years imprisonment in the case related to the attack on a police station in Faisalabad. The culprits include 6 members of the National Assembly, a member of the Punjab Legislative Assembly and an MP.
What will PTI do now
So far 14 MPs of Imran Khan’s party have been convicted and disqualified from the post in the cases of the incident of May 9. The party’s interim chairman Gauhar Ali said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf will challenge the decision in the Lahore High Court.
Imran had made serious allegations against Munir
Meanwhile, let us also tell here that, recently Imran Khan had targeted Army Chief Asim Munir. Khan had said that the generals are insulting the army and sacrificing national interests to maintain their hold on power. Khan said in a post on social media, “Desh is running under Munir’s law and ISI (intelligence agency) is giving him protection.” He is ready to sacrifice every national interest to maintain his hold on power. The current army chief is insulting the army in the same way as Yahya Khan.
