Islamabad: Former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who is lodged in Pakistan’s jail, has called for another major protest on the country’s Independence Day (14 August). He has said Dotuk that he would never bow down to “the alliance of robbers and fools”. His gesture was clearly towards the ruling coalition led by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif.

Imran is in jail since 2023

72-year-old Imran Khan’s party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) performed nationwide on August 5 under the ‘Free Imran Khan Movement’. During this time more than 1,000 leaders and workers of the party were arrested. Imran Khan was arrested from his residence in Lahore after being convicted by the court in a corruption case on 5 August 2023. Since then, he has been kept in jail due to being sentenced in many other cases.

Announcement of big movement on independence day

Shareing a message on his ‘X’ account on Thursday, Khan said, “Our next decisive moment is 14 August. The day when our ancestors freed this land from British rule. But we still have to gain true freedom. Until the rule of the Constitution and Law is restored, we cannot call ourselves free nations.”

Call to raise voice against fascism

Imran said, “On this Independence Day, the whole country should stand up unitedly and raise voice against fascism spread in our country.” Khan’s statement came at a time when his supporters are raising their voice against the government and the army. PTI still claims that Khan has been targeted under political vengeance. (Language)
