PM Modi signs conferences with Cyprus President
Cyprus: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday held delegation level talks with Cyprus President Nicos Christodolidase to discuss several issues to promote bilateral relations. Modi is currently on a visit to Cyprus, which is the first phase of his visit to three countries. He was formally welcomed at the Prime Minister’s arrival at Rashtrapati Bhavan before the talks. Later, Modi held delegation level talks with Christodolidase. He underlined India’s economic progress in the last 10 years of tenure.
Said that stability in policy-making, improvement in business environment, digital revolution and next generation reforms have made India the fastest growing major economy in the world. “India is the fifth largest economy in the world today and will soon reach third place. There have been many major changes in India like tax reforms, corporate tax cuts, ending criminalization of laws, and increasing trust in business.”
These areas will be stronger with Cyprus
On the occasion, PM Modi emphasized the possibility of strengthening bilateral relations with Cyprus and said that India and Cyprus could have deep support in areas such as trade, investment, digital payments, tourism, defense, logistics and startups. PM Modi said that the impact of India’s digital revolution is being seen all over the world. “Today 50 percent of the world’s digital transactions are in India, the credit goes to the Unified Payments Interface (UPI),” he said. In this sequence, an agreement has been signed between NPCI International and Eurobank Cyprus, which will make border pay payment possible between the two countries.
Several agreements signed with Cyprus
Important agreements were signed in Cyprus and India during this period, with cooperation between the NSE International Exchange (Gift City, Gujarat) and the Cyprus Stock Exchange. This is the first financial support between Europe and India. Prime Minister Modi also said that many Indian companies see Cyprus as an entrance to Europe, especially in the fields of IT, tourism and financial services.

PM Modi said that “This is the first time in 23 years when an Indian Prime Minister Cyprus has come and the first program was a business roundtable, which shows how important the economic relations between the two countries are.”

India -Gris -Cyprus together has announced the establishment of a tripartite trade and investment council (IGC). Which will promote cooperation in areas such as shipping, green energy, aviation and digital services. Prime Minister Modi’s visit is also considered to be strategically important even in the context of long -standing political tension between Cyprus and Türkiye.
