Bandung (Indonesia): A natural stone mine collapsed on Friday in Serbone district of West Java province of Indonesia, killing at least 10 people and 6 workers are still missing. Local authorities have confirmed this painful accident. Local police chief Sumari said that the accident happened when the upper part of the mine was suddenly collapsed. More than two dozen workers were working there at the time of the incident. Many people were buried in the rubble after the accident. Relief and rescue teams are working on the spot.

According to primary information, the rescue team has so far evacuated a dozen injured, some of whom are in critical condition. “We are currently investigating the reasons for the mine collapse and the owners and workers are being questioned.” He said that police, emergency personnel, soldiers and volunteers together are searching for missing people with the help of five excavation machines, but loose soils are having obstacles in the campaign as it has increased the risk of landslides.

Search campaign stopped due to night

National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) spokesperson Abdul Muhari said that a search operation has been stopped on Friday evening due to darkness. Now it will be started again in the early hours of Saturday.

During the campaign, three excavation machines and six trucks have also been found buried in the debris, whose search is on. Till Friday afternoon, rescuers recovered 10 bodies, while six injured have been admitted to the hospital. (AP)
