According to folklore, Lord Shiva was drowned in deep mourning when Goddess Sati had consumed herself in her father Daksha’s Yagya Kund. Two drops of tears emanating from their grief and anger fell on the earth – one drop fell into Pushkar in Rajasthan, which made Pushkar lake, and the other drop fell into Katas, making it the holy Katas Kund. It is believed that the water of this pool is like nectar and bathing in it causes sins. For this reason, it is also called Amrit Kund.

Along with mythological significance, Katas Raj has a rich historical and educational history.

• Pandavas Of Residence, It is believed that during the Mahabharata period, the Pandavas spent some time during their exile in Katas Raj. There is also a well here, which is called the ‘well of the Pandavas’, from where they used to drink water.
