Kathmandu. An in-principle agreement has been reached between Nepal and India on two international transmission lines. Energy Minister Deepak Khadka, who returned after completing a three-day visit to New Delhi, gave this information today. He said that an in-principle agreement has been reached between the two countries on the investment format for the 400 KV transmission line connecting Inruwa in Nepal and Purnia in India and the Lamki-Bareilly transmission line of the same capacity. The Inaruwa-Purnia transmission line is targeted to be completed by 2027-2028. It has also been agreed to complete the Lamki (Dodhara)-Bareilly 400 KV transmission line by 2028-2029. Nepal was proposing to build both these transmission lines on the lines of the Indian section of the New Butwal-Gorakhpur transmission line. He said he had a bilateral meeting with Indian Minister Manohar Lal in New Delhi. Khadka said that Nepal Electricity Authority and Power Grid Corporation of India will work together on this. According to Khadka, Nepal will do its share of construction work with the grant of America’s MCC project. This information has been given to India. It has also been agreed to form a joint venture company by merging the government companies of both the countries for construction from Nepal border to Gorakhpur in India. Both the countries will have equal share in this. Soon the Energy Secretaries of both the countries will sign the written agreement.
