The Income Tax Department has now prepared to launch a new portal for ITR e-filing. It has been made more user friendly, easy and secure. The committee will give its recommendations by 30 November

According to the internal circular of the Income Tax Department, all the previous facilities will be available in ITR e-filing portal 3.0. Apart from this, facilities like filling ITR, submitting all types of forms and many other facilities will be provided. Central Processing Center (CPC) processes returns through this portal only. The IT department has also taken advice from all stakeholders to prepare e-filing portal 3.0. For this, a committee will also be formed so that the opinion of taxpayers, tax professionals, various departments and the public can also be known. This committee will give its recommendations by November 30, 2024.

With the help of ITR e-filing portal 3.0, taxpayers will get many benefits. Efforts will be made to minimize people’s complaints related to e-filing through changes in technology and infrastructure. Also, by improving the user experience, it will be made easier for people to file returns. With its help, processing can be done quickly. Due to this, processing time will also be reduced and people will be able to get returns quickly.

7.28 crore taxpayers filed income tax returns

By July 31, 2024, 7.28 crore taxpayers had filed income tax returns for the financial year 2023-25 ​​and assessment year 2024-25. This figure is 7.5 percent more than the 6.77 crore ITR filed in assessment year 2023-24. According to the Finance Ministry, 72 percent returns have been filed under the new tax regime. Out of total 7.28 crore returns, 5.27 crore income tax returns have been filed under the new income tax regime. Only 2.01 crore income tax returns were filed in the old tax regime.
