No Interest in Copying Other Leaders
Bumrah made it clear that he doesn’t believe in copying other players’ leadership styles. While acknowledging the success of former captains Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, he explained, “You need to find your own style instead of imitating someone else. Virat and Rohit have been very successful and delivered results, but my way is to not follow a textbook strategy.”
He also extended this approach to his bowling, stating, “You’ll see that I have my own style in my bowling. I’ve always played cricket this way.”

The Role of Fast Bowlers in Leadership
Bumrah also shared his belief that fast bowlers are naturally suited for leadership roles. He cited examples of Australia’s captain Pat Cummins and former Indian captain Kapil Dev, who excelled both as pacers and leaders. He explained that fast bowlers, due to their strategic thinking, are often well-equipped for captaincy.
Leadership Is About Contribution, Not Position
Throughout his career, Bumrah has always seen himself as part of the ‘Captaincy’ group, even when others like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were captains. “When Rohit or Virat was the captain, I always wanted to contribute extra. I tried to learn from them, and now with new players, I share my experiences,” he said, highlighting the importance of contributing to the team beyond just holding the position of captain.
Jasprit Bumrah said, “I made my debut under Virat Kohli, he’s a leader in the team. He’s one of the greatest. He’s the utmost professional we have in our team, I don’t wanna jinx, but he was looking sharp in the nets”. pic.twitter.com/lc1J3bcYVp
