India has appealed against a decision of the Trade Disputes Settlement Committee of the World Trade Organization (WTO). The committee had said in its decision that the import duty imposed by India on certain information and technology products is not in line with global trade norms.

“India has appealed and requested the Appellate Body to reverse, modify, or declare legally ineffective the findings, decisions and recommendations of the Committee,” the WTO said.

The WTO said India sought a review of the “errors of law” and legal interpretation made by the committee in its report.

The Disputes Committee of the WTO said in its report on April 17 that import duties imposed by India on certain information and technology products violate global trade norms. European Union, Japan and Taiwan had complained against India in this regard in WTO.
