Johannesburg: The ‘India Club’ located in Johannesburg, South Africa organized its 16th annual India day celebrations on Saturday. The event holds special significance for the overseas Indian community and serves to bring India’s culture, values and contemporary global issues on one platform every year. The theme of this time focused on India’s role and commitment in dealing with global terrorism.

‘India Club’ is a non-profit organization that was established 16 years ago to promote programs related to India. India Day is its major annual event, which exposes Indian culture, unity and social concerns every year. Thousands of people participated in this year’s program, including migrants from various states of India. A colorful cultural program was organized on the occasion, in which dance, music and traditional presentations mesmerized all the audience.
Companies set up stalls
Indian companies working in South Africa demonstrated their products and services by setting up stalls, giving a glimpse of India’s economic and technical achievements. The special glimpse of the ceremony was a special exhibition at the entrance of the venue in Sandon, which focused on the problem of global terrorism. The exhibition depicted the schedule of terrorist attacks around the world including India. It recently exposed the attack in Pahalgam, India, titled “Humanity of Terrorism.”
Indian High Commissioner also joined
Addressing the people present at the ceremony, India’s High Commissioner in South Africa said, “You all must see this exhibition. It reminds us how terrorism affects not only India, but the whole world and what effect it has on our families and life.” (AP)
