Islamabad: India has completely rejected the verdict of the Arbitration Court regarding the Indus Water Treaty. At the same time, Pakistan has expressed happiness over the court’s decision. Pakistan on Saturday welcomed the verdict of the Hegs on two hydroelectric projects in Jammu and Kashmir and indicated to be interested to interact with India on issues related to the Indus Water Treaty.
Pakistan desperate to negotiate with India
Pakistan said in a statement released on Saturday that the “high priority” is that “India and Pakistan should find a meaningful talks, including solving the issue related to the Indus Water Treaty (IWT).” India on Friday rejected the decision saying that it has never recognized the so -called structure of dispute resolution with Pakistan. In New Delhi, the Ministry of External Affairs, referring to the decision in the matter related to Pakistan’s objections on Kishanganga and Ratale hydroelectric projects, said that India dismisses this so -called “supplementary decision”.
What is the decision of arbitration court?
The Arbitration Court said in its judgment that India’s decision to suspend the Indus Water Treaty in April does not limit its decision -making power on the dispute and its decision is binding on all the parties. However, India never recognized the proceedings of the Arbitration Court, as Pakistan had objected to the design of both projects under the provisions of the Indus Water Treaty. On the other hand, Pakistan described this decision as “a major legal victory” and emphasized that this is “a clear message that India cannot unilaterally suspend or ignore the treaty.”
Foreign Ministry reprimanded Pakistan
Taking a dig at Pakistan, the Foreign Ministry said that “at the behest of Pakistan, this latest drama is another attempt to avoid accountability for its role as a global center of terrorism. It is another attempt to avoid accountability.” The statement said, “Pakistan’s resorting to this concocted arbitration system, fraud and manipulation on international forums, the Ministry of External Affairs said.” The illegal arbitration court constituted under the Indus Water Treaty 1960 has openly violated this and issued a ‘supplementary decision’ regarding Kishanganga and Ratale hydroelectric projects in Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
India did not recognize the arbitration court
The Ministry of Ministry said, “India has never legally recognized the existence of this so -called arbitration court.” The Ministry said that India has always been stance that the formation of this so -called arbitration court itself is a serious violation of the Indus Water Treaty and as a result, any action taken by it and any decision taken by it is illegal. A day after the terrorist attack on 22 April in Pahalgam, India took several punitive steps against Pakistan, including suspending the 1960 Indus Water Treaty. (Language)
