India-Nigeria Hold Second Strategic and Counter-Terrorism Dialogue in Delhi

New Delhi — At the invitation of India’s National Security Adviser, Ajit K. Doval, Nigeria’s National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu visited New Delhi from November 4-5, 2024, to participate in the Second Strategic and Counter-Terrorism Dialogue between India and Nigeria. This dialogue underscores the shared commitment of both countries to combating global security challenges, advancing counter-terrorism efforts, and fostering closer diplomatic ties in strategically significant areas.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) highlighted the importance of this dialogue in a statement, noting the comprehensive agenda which included discussions on intelligence sharing, counter-terrorism strategies, cybersecurity, and cooperation in defense technologies. Both India and Nigeria face distinct yet overlapping security threats, making such collaboration crucial for addressing mutual concerns and promoting stability in their respective regions. The dialogue also aimed to identify and address emerging threats in areas such as maritime security, economic resilience against illegal activities, and regional stability.
The growing partnership between India and Nigeria reflects the strategic priorities of both nations. For India, Nigeria is an important partner in Africa, particularly in terms of trade, energy, and defense cooperation. Similarly, Nigeria sees India as a crucial ally in addressing security concerns that extend beyond its borders, particularly in areas affected by extremism.
Through this ongoing dialogue, India and Nigeria aim to build a robust framework for security cooperation that contributes to global counter-terrorism efforts and strengthens their bilateral relationship.
