The ancestral house of the great filmmaker Satyajit Ray is being demolished in the city of Mayman Singh of Bangladesh. A strong objection has been raised by the Government of India. Expressing regret, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs has urged the Bangladesh government to reconsider the decision.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement, “We are extremely sorry that the ancestral property of famous filmmaker and litterateur Satyajit Ray in Mayan Singh, Bangladesh, which was his grandfather and noted litterateur Upendra Kishore Ray Chaudhary.” It is being demolished. ‘
Bangla is a symbol of cultural renaissance property
The Ministry of External Affairs further said, ‘Given the historical status of the building, which is a symbol of Bangla cultural renaissance. It would be better to reconsider its demolition and to consider the options of repairing and reconstructing it as a symbol of the Sahitya Museum and the shared culture of India and Bangladesh. The Government of India has also expressed his desire to cooperate with local authorities in this regard.
This house was built by Satyajit Ray’s grandfather and father
Please tell that this ancestral house was built by Satyajit Ray’s grandfather and poet Sukumar Ray’s father Upendra Kishore Ray Chaudhary. This hundred year old building was previously used as Mayan Singh Shishu Academy. This ancestral house is located on the road named after Horikishore Ray Chaudhary, another ancestor of Satyajit Ray.
CM Mamta Banerjee also expressed grief
The Ray family has contributed indelible in Bengali literature and art. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also reacted to this development, calling it ‘extremely tragic’. Mamta Banerjee wrote in Bangla on social media platform X, saying, ‘The news has revealed that Satyajit Ray’s grandfather in Mayaman Singh city of Bangladesh, famous writer-editor Upendrakishore Ray Chaudhary, who is immersed in his memories. Their ancestral house is being demolished. ‘
Ray family is associated with the cultural history of Bengal
He further said, ‘Ray family is one of the leading carriers of Bengali culture. Upendra Kishore is a column of the Renaissance of Bengal. Therefore, I believe that this house is deeply connected to the cultural history of Bengal.
Appeal to preserve a historical house
CM Mamta Banerjee has appealed to the interim government of Bangladesh and the people of the country to preserve this historic house. He also urged the Government of India to intervene in the matter.
