India’s statement on Trump’s decision to increase tariffs, said- ‘… will take every important step’
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump.
New Delhi: India has strongly criticized this by giving a befitting reply to the US by giving a befitting reply on 50 per cent of additional tariffs imposed on oil imports from Russia. India says that this step is ‘inappropriate, unjust and unnecessary’. The government clarified that India’s oil imports are done with the aim of ensuring market needs and 1.4 billion Indians. A statement by the Ministry of External Affairs said, ‘We have already made our situation clear. Our oil imports are based on the situation in the market and its purpose is to meet the energy needs of the country.
‘It is completely inappropriate and needless’
India in its statement emphasized that many other countries are also taking similar steps for their national interests, but America only targeted India, which is unfair. The ministry further said, ‘It is very sad that the US decided to impose additional tariffs against India. We consider it to be completely inappropriate and unintentional. ‘ With its statement, India made it clear that it would take every necessary step to protect its national interests. The dispute began when the US raised questions about India’s oil imports from Russia and announced the imposition of 25 per cent and then 50 per cent additional tariffs.
Additional 25 percent tariff will be applicable from August 27
Explain that on Wednesday, US President Donald Trump took a big decision and ordered 25 percent additional tariffs on Indian goods. With this, Indian products will now be charged a total of 50 percent fee in the US. Last week, Trump announced 25 percent tariff, and now this tariff has increased further after the new order. Trump signed an executive order a few hours before the implementation of this new tariff. Under this order, 50 percent tariffs will be levied on all Indian products except certain goods. The initial 25 percent tariff will be applicable from August 7, while the additional 25 percent fee will start after 21 days i.e. 27 August.
Trump warned of additional tariff on Tuesday
Explain that on Tuesday, Trump warned that if India continues to buy oil and gas from Russia, he will levy heavy duty within 24 hours. Trump says Russia is using oil sales money from India in the war against Ukraine, but India is ignoring this to get cheap oil. Earlier on July 30, Trump also announced a 25 percent fee on Indian goods and said that India would be fined separately due to buying oil and gas from Russia. However, India has given a befitting reply to these steps from India.
