New Delhi: The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) is preparing to launch an integrated tourist visa to completely change the travel experience in the Middle East. Under this, passengers will be allowed to travel to the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait and Oman with only one visa. The initiative is inspired by the Schengen visa model of Europe and is considered a historical step towards deep regional integration between the Gulf countries.
The plan was approved 2 years ago
This visa plan was formally approved at a meeting of internal ministers in Oman in November 2023. GCC General Secretary Jasem Al Budaivi described it as an achievement inspired by cooperation and visionary leadership. “This integrated visa reflects the commitment of our leaders’ solidarity and regional cooperation,” he said.
European Schengen -like travel experience
This visa system will act as a Schengen visa of the European Union, in which tourists will not need to take separate visas for every country. Admission to all six countries will be possible with the same application. This visa will be valid for 30 to 90 days and can be applied only through the online portal. Although this visa will only be valid for tourism and family visits, it is expected to benefit a major benefit to hospitality, aviation and retail sector.
Application process and necessary documents
The GCC Secretariat will soon launch an official portal, where passengers will be able to choose one of the two options.
- A journey to a country
- Yatra to all six countries
The documents required for the application will be included
- At least 6 months valid passport
- Passport Size Photo
- Online application form
- Invitation letter from hotel booking or host
travel insurance
- Proof of adequate amount (eg bank statement)
- Return or further travel ticket
- Wiza fee will have to be paid online, and the approved visa will be sent via email, which can be shown in print or digital form.
Strategy ahead of tourism
Although this visa is centered tourism, it also aims to promote regional unity, economic cooperation and strategic strength. GCC considers it an important step towards coordination in areas such as digital services, logistics and shared economic zones. GCC General Secretary Al Budaivi said, “This initiative is not limited to tourism only. It is towards strengthening regional identity, improving mobility and increasing collective flexibility among global challenges.”
