Indian Oil prepared aviation fuel, refinery with poor edible oil, to make SAF
Home And the damaged oil is thrown after frying food in the restaurant. A refinery of the public sector oil company Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) has now found certification to make sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) with the same poor oil. The company’s chairman Arvinder Singh Sahni gave this information. Let us tell you that SAF is an optional fuel made of non-petrolium ‘feedstock’ that reduces emissions from air transport. Depending on availability, it can be added up to 50 percent in traditional aviation turbine fuel (ATF or jet fuel).
One percent SAF mix in jet fuel from 2027 will be mandatory
India has made one percent SAF mixture compulsory in jet fuel sold to international airline companies since 2027. Sahni said that the IOC refinery in Panipat, Haryana has obtained the ISCC Corsia Certification of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to create SAF with edible oil used. He said that Indian Oil is the first company in the country to achieve this certification. Sahni said that from the end of this year, this refinery will start production of about 35,000 tonnes of SAF annually.
Oil will be collected from snack companies like Hotel Chen, Restaurant and Haldiram
Arvinder Singh Sahni said that this production will be sufficient to meet the requirement of compulsory one percent mixture for the country in 2027. Explaining this process, he said that agencies will collect cooking oils used from big users such as hotel chains, restaurants and snacks and sweets like Haldiram and supply it to the Panipat refinery. This oil will be used to produce SAF in the Panipat refinery. Large hotels and restaurant chains usually throw cooking oil after using once.
The solution will be discovered to collect oil from homes
Currently, these used cooking oils are assembled and exported by agencies. Sahni said, “This type of oil is available in large quantities in the country. The only challenge is to collect it. However, it is easy to collect from large hotel chains, but small users including homes need to find solutions to gather it. ”
