There is a temple of Mata Tanot Rai (Awad Mata) located about 130 km from Jaisalmer in Rajasthan. Tanot Mata is considered a form of Hinglaj Mata, the goddess of Balochistan. Tanot Bhati was the capital of Rajputs. He later made Jaisalmer his capital. This temple of Tanot Mata has always been a revered place of the local residents here, but during the 1965 Indo-Pak war that the Goddess showed the miracle, after that it became a special center of reverence for Indian soldiers and Border Security Force soldiers.
1965 Indo -Pak war event: If Shatru had captured Tanot, he could have claimed the area from Ramgarh to Shahgarh. Therefore, the authority over Tanot became important for both armies. From 17 to 19 November 1965, the Pakistani Army attacked Tanot from three different directions. The enemy rained about 3 thousand shells in the area around the temple of Tanot Mata, but most of the shells missed their target. About 450 shells were fired by targeting the temple alone, but not a single ball was miraculously hit its target and not one of the balls fell in the temple premises exploded and the temple was scratched.
The soldiers, assuming that the mother is with herself, gave a befitting reply to the enemy attacks with full confidence despite being in a small number and killed hundreds of her soldiers. The enemy army was forced to escape. It is said that the mother came to the dream and said that as long as you are in the premises of my temple, I will protect you. All the newspapers of the country made this magnificent victory of the soldiers’ tanot.
1965 Indo -Pak war event:
Once again on the night of 4 December 1971, a company of the Punjab Regiment and a Sisub company dusted the entire tank regiment of Pakistan in one of the world’s greatest battles in Longewala with the blessings of the mother. Longewala was made a cemetery of Pakistani tanks. After Longewala Vijay, a Vijay Pillar was built in the premises of Mata Tanot Rai, where every year on 16 December, the festival is celebrated in memory of great soldiers.
Currently in 2025, Pakistan carried out drone attack on Jaisalmer:
On the night of May 8, 2025, Pakistan attacked the Jaisalmer and around it but India’s air defense system thwarted the attack. It is also being said that Pakistan had also dropped some bombs in Jaisalmer but it did not torn after falling down. In a village, a live bomb was found which was defused.
