‘Infantry Day’ organized in honor of the infantry who defeated the enemy

New Delhi, October 27 (IANS). Indian Army is celebrating Infantry Day on Sunday. Infantry is a very important part of the army. This unit of the army remains at the forefront of the war and fights the enemy. In all the wars including Kargil, Infantry not only gave a tough fight to the enemy but also played an important role in India’s victory.

Infantry Day was observed as ‘Valour Day’ at the National War Memorial on Sunday. A wreath laying ceremony was organized at the National War Memorial in honor of the brave men who made the supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation. On this occasion, Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan, Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi and DG Infantry, Lieutenant General Ajay Kumar paid floral tributes to the martyrs.

Infantry Day dates back to October 27, 1947. On this day, the first battalion of the Sikh Regiment had landed at Srinagar Airfield to protect the people of Jammu and Kashmir from Pakistani army and tribal attacks. Due to this heroic action, Pakistan had miserably failed in its objective. Infantry is also called the ‘queen of war’.

The history of infantry is as old as the first human warfare. Infantry has played an important role in the defense of the nation. In the 1962 war with China, the 1947-48 war with Pakistan, the 1965 and 1971 wars, the infantry had shown amazing bravery and indomitable courage. Apart from this, the role of infantry was very important in the Kargil conflict of 1999, anti-terrorism operations in the North and North-East, Operation Blue Star and Operation Rakshak in Punjab, Operation Pawan in Sri Lanka and Operation Snow Leopard in Eastern Ladakh.

It was because of this role of infantry that India got success in these campaigns. In a grand ceremony on Sunday, Colonels of all regiments of Infantry, Brigadier Vijay Kumar Berry, MVC (Retd) who participated in Operation Cactus Lily, Subedar Major Shatrughan Singh, Havildar Jai Ram Singh, who participated in Operation Vijay, Also offered a floral tribute at the war memorial on behalf of the Infantry.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also praised the indomitable courage and courage of all Infantry officers, soldiers and ex-servicemen on the occasion of Infantry Day. Praising the Indian soldiers, he said, “On Infantry Day, we all salute the indomitable courage and bravery of all the officers, soldiers and ex-servicemen of the Infantry who continuously protect us. They always stand with determination to face any adverse situation and ensure the security of our nation. Infantry is the essence of strength, valor and duty, which inspires every Indian.”
