40 years after ‘Masoom’ impressed millions of people with his family, love and a thoughtful message, filmmaker Shekhar Kapoor is set to return to that emotional world with ‘Masoom- The Next Generation’.

Recently, in a poignant post shared with the poster of the original film on social media, Shekhar Kapoor recalled the journey that brought him back to this dear story – a story that has been very personal and emotional for him.

Shekhar Kapoor wrote, this film is about home and identity. And it took me ten years to create a story that is as simple as the original film, but full of emotions and deep meanings.

He said that this sequel is inspired by the discovery of his lifetime identity. This is the same subject that veteran actress Shabana Azmi – who appeared in the innocent of 1983 – also underlined in an interview recently. He said that the question of identity of Shekhar has always been entangled, ever since I know him.

During a recent script narration, when he told the story to his close friends of the film world, Shekhar Kapoor remembered emotionally: ‘Innocent – the Next Generation’ had tears in everyone’s eyes while narrating the first story of ‘Innocent – the Next Generation’ … and, a little shame, in my eyes too!

Now, when he is once again returning to the director’s chair, Shekhar Kapoor asks for blessings – to make the mother easily statement, and once again to get into the depths of emotions from the family, home and identity point of view.

With ‘innocent – The Next Generation’, Shekhar Kapoor does not just offer a sequel, presenting a soulful option of a story that has touched the hearts for decades. Honoring the Padma Bhushan Award and visionary filmmaker, Shekhar Kapoor is now making a new chapter with his daughter Kaveri Kapoor, who is playing an important role in the film.
