Intel Releases Core i9-14900KS Processor With Up To 6.2GHz Max Turbo Frequency At $699

On Thursday, California-based chip manufacturer Intel released the 14th-generation Core i9-14900KS processors. The company touts the chipset as the “fastest desktop processor.” The latest generation of chipsets pushes the 14th-generation desktop processors to their fastest speeds yet, building on the platform set by the 6.0GHz Core i9-13900KS processor that came out last year. For powerful performance, the i9-14900KS has 24 cores, 32 threads, and 36 megabytes of Smart Cache. Let’s look at the new chipset’s specifications, features, and price.

  • The processor provides up to 6.2GHz max turbo frequency with Intel Thermal Velocity Boost tech, making it the fastest desktop processor speed on the market. 
  • The processor comes with 24 cores, including eight performance cores and 16 efficiency cores, along with 32 threads, 150-watt processor base power, and 20 PCle lanes for extending the onboard storage.
  • It also features Intel APO support for providing up to 11 percent performance improvement in supported titles. For now Intel APO supports 14 gaming titles. 
  • Intel’s latest Core i9-14900KS supports up to 192GB of DDR5 5600 MT/s or DDR 4 3200 MT/s memory. 
  • Last but not least, the processor is compatible with Z790 and Z690 motherboards, with the latest BIOS recommended for the best gaming and content creation experience.

Moreover, the processor provides up to 15 percent improved gaming performance compared to the previous generations. Further, content creators can expect up to a 73 percent boost in compute-intensive tasks. In its marketing material, Intel also mentions that the processor scores better than the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X processor in several benchmark platforms.

The latest processor from Intel comes with a Turbo Boost Max Frequency of up to 5.9 GHz, while the Thermal Velocity Boost Frequency goes up to 6.2GHz. Users can overclock the performance cores to 5.6GHz, while the efficiency cores can go up to 4.5GHz. While the former has a base frequency of 3.2GHz, the latter has a base frequency of 2.4GHz. Regarding graphics, the processor comes with Intel UHD Graphics 770. The base power is rated at 150W (higher than Core i9-14900K), while the Max Turbo Power is rated at 253W (similar to Core i9-14900K).

The special edition processor will be available in the markets beginning March 14, 2024, with a recommended customer price of $699, which is about Rs. 57,921. Compared to the regular Core i9-14900K processor, which is available at $544.99, the Core i9-14900KS appears to be a steep hike. Further, it could be one of the last processors compatible with the LGA 1700 socket, which might be upgraded with the next-generation processors.
