The retention list of all the teams for IPL 2025 was revealed on October 31. Delhi Capitals retained Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Abhishek Porel, and Tristan Stubbs. Especially talking about South African player Tristan Stubbs, DC had retained him for Rs 10 crore, but his name is included in the names registered for the auction which has created a sensation since yesterday.

Tristan Stubbs: A Surprise in IPL 2025 Auction

A total of 1,574 players have registered for the IPL 2025 mega auction, with Tristan Stubbs ranked 253rd. Known for his explosive batting, Stubbs has a strike rate of around 138 in his international T20 career. Delhi Capitals bought him at his base price of Rs 50 lakh in IPL 2025. However, they retained him for a massive Rs 10 crore for the upcoming season.

Massive Salary Jump for Stubbs

Tristan Stubbs’ IPL salary saw an astronomical increase—2000 times higher than his original price. Despite this, Delhi Capitals may not be happy to see his name back in the auction pool.

Impressive Performance in IPL 2024

In IPL 2024, Stubbs impressed with 378 runs in 14 matches at an average of 54. His aggressive batting style was on full display, as he maintained a strike rate of 190.91. Stubbs also scored three half-centuries during the season.

Delhi’s Retention List and Budget

Delhi Capitals retained key players: Axar Patel for Rs 16.5 crore, Kuldeep Yadav for Rs 13.25 crore, and Tristan Stubbs for Rs 10 crore. They also retained Abhishek Porel for Rs 4 crore. The total spend on these four players is Rs 47 crore, leaving them with Rs 73 crore for the auction.

A New Tragedy Born for Delhi Capitals

The unexpected inclusion of Stubbs in the auction list adds a new twist to Delhi’s strategy. The team’s management will now have to decide how to handle this situation ahead of the IPL 2025 season.
