IPL 2025 starts from March 14, final will be played on May 25
New Delhi, 22 November (HS). In an unprecedented step, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the dates of the next three Indian Premier League (IPL) seasons.
The greatest interest is on the 2025 season, which will run from March 14 (Friday) to May 25 (Sunday). Apart from this, the 2026 season will be held from March 15 (Sunday) to May 31 (Sunday) and the 2027 season will be held from March 14 (Sunday) to May 30 (Sunday).
According to ESPNcricinfo, in an email sent to franchises on Thursday, the IPL described the dates of the tournament as a window, but there is a possibility that these could be the final dates. There will be 74 matches in the 2025 season, which is the same as in the previous three seasons. However, this number is ten less than the 84 matches listed by the IPL in 2022, when the media rights for the 2023-27 cycle were sold.
In the tender document for the new rights cycle, the IPL had listed different numbers of matches per season: 74-74 matches in 2023 and 2024, 84-84 matches in 2025 and 2026 and a maximum for the final year of the deal in 2027. 94 matches.
Foreign players indicated full availability
In a major boost to the franchise, foreign players from most of the full member countries have received approval from their respective boards to play in the IPL for the next three years. This does not include Pakistan, whose players have not played in the IPL since the inaugural season in 2008 due to the political standoff between the governments of the two countries.
