Iran Lebanon Israel War: The latest development in the Israel–Lebanon war is that Hezbollah finally announced that its leader, Hassan Nasrallah, was dead after a strike from Israel hit Hezbollah headquarters in Beirut. Regional leaders around Israel reacted to take responsibility for this strike with a great uproar, giving wide condemnation, especially from Iran.

Khamenei’s Unwavering Support for Hezbollah

Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in his public address called Israel’s actions “short-sighted” and “stupid,” but did not confirm the death of Nasrallah. Rather, he made it clear that what the impact of Israel’s military actions in Lebanon would bear on regional resistance movements constitutes the true importance of his statement.

Following the assassination of Hassan Nasrallah, Hezbollah said that it will continue fighting against Israel, showing that the group is strong and hasn’t wavered following the death of their top figurehead. At such a critical time, Khamenei tweeted on social media

“On the one hand, the killing of defenseless civilians in Lebanon, has once again revealed the savage nature of the rabid Zionists to everyone. On the other hand, it has proven how shortsighted and insane the policies of the leaders of the occupying regime are,” said Khamenei.

“The terrorist gang ruling Zionist regime hasn’t learned from its 1yr criminal war in Gaza & doesn’t understand the massacre of women, children, & civilians cannot hurt strong structure of Resistance or bring it to its knees. Now they’re testing the same absurd policy in Lebanon,” he added.

Israeli Military Mobilization Amid Rising Tensions

As tensions continue to rise, the Israeli military called up extra reserve units which include three battalions in preparation for the next wave. Lt. Col Nadav Shoshani of the Israeli army stated that although a huge punch was dealt to Hezbollah’s military infrastructure, much of its arsenal, including its guided missiles, still functions. The developments are still being made as players in the region weigh their implications from this latest rounds of escalations.

It is noteworthy that the main question being asked following the death of the Hezbollah leader in Beirut is whether or not the Middle East’s ire has grown. However, other than Iran, no other Middle Eastern nation has responded as of yet. It will be fascinating to observe in the near future how the Middle Eastern countries respond to this.

Who was Hassan Nasrallah?

On August 31, 1960, Hassan Nasrallah was born in Beirut’s northern Burj Hammoud district. Since February 1992, Nasrallah has served as Hezbollah’s secretary general. After Israel assassinated Abbas al-Musawi, 64-year-old Nasrallah took over. It was also reported that Nasrallah had exceptional public speaking skills.
