Extreme extremists are active in Iran’s disturbed province
The Sistan-Balochistan province, bordering Pakistan and Afghanistan, has been the center of instability and violence for a long time. This area not only struggles with ethnic and communal stress, but the activities of armed drug smugglers, separatist groups and terrorists are also common here. From time to time, there are deadly clashes between security forces and militant groups. The region is counted among the lowest developed provinces in Iran, where there is a huge shortage of education, health and infrastructure. Taking advantage of this social and economic backwardness, many extremist organizations have been successful in making their inroads here.
Iran government is running a campaign
The Iranian government is continuously conducting security campaign in the region. So that extremism and smuggling can be curbed in the border areas. Wednesday’s action has been described by the government as a “big success”, but analysts believe that the problem of extremism will not be completely eliminated until regional inequalities are overcome.
