Islamabad disappointed to see real democracy in Kashmir: India

United Nations, October 16 (IANS). India has given a befitting reply to Pakistan, saying that due to its commitment to fake elections, Islamabad is disappointed that the people of Kashmir freely exercised their franchise and elected their leaders.

“Fake elections, imprisonment of opposition leaders and suppression of political voices are all known to Pakistan. It is natural that Pakistan was disappointed to see real democracy working,” Aldos Mathew Punnus, advisor to India’s UN mission, said on Monday. Will happen.”

India’s UN mission advisor Aldos Mathew Punnus said on Monday that fraudulent elections, imprisonment of opposition leaders, and repression of political voices are not unfamiliar to Pakistan. Therefore, it is natural that Pakistan is disappointed to see real democracy.

He responded to comments by Pakistan’s Permanent Representative Munir Akram, saying that given its poor democratic record, Pakistan considers genuine democratic processes to be fraudulent. He said that the election results were announced in Jammu and Kashmir last week. Lakhs of voters in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir have raised their voice. They exercised their right to vote and selected their leadership according to the framework of the Constitution and universal adult suffrage. It is clear that these terms must be unfamiliar to Pakistan.

In 2019, more than six million voters exercised their franchise in Kashmir in the first elections held after the abrogation of Kashmir’s special status. Voters chose the National Conference and Congress alliance, but the ruling party at the center, BJP, faced defeat.

Punnoos called on Pakistan to stop “serious and ongoing human rights violations in Pakistan-occupied Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. He said the world witnesses Pakistan’s divisive activities every day. It is ironic that a country which Globally notorious for state-sponsored terrorism and international crimes, Pakistan’s consistent policy has been to use cross-border terrorism as a weapon against its neighbours. “

He further said that the list of attacks organized by Pakistan is really long. In India, they have targeted our Parliament, markets and pilgrimage routes. Ordinary Indian citizens have been victims of such condemnable and inhuman acts. India is a symbol of pluralism, diversity and democracy. On the contrary, Pakistan reminds the world of terrorism, narrow-mindedness and oppression. Religious and ethnic minorities and their places of worship are regularly targeted and destroyed. Therefore, it is important for Pakistan to first look within itself and put its own house in order instead of interfering in the internal affairs of neighboring countries.

Referring to the February elections in Pakistan, he said that during the February elections, opposition leader and former Prime Minister Imran Khan and many of his supporters were in jail and were prevented from contesting the elections. Sanctions on the opposition hampered their ability to campaign. Elections held under military control were marred by violence and mobile services were shut down to prevent voter mobilization.
