Tehran: The day after the Israeli attack, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has confirmed that Iran’s Khondab (Old Name Arak) Heavy Water Production Plant has been damaged. The attack took place on Thursday, when the fierce battle between Israel and Iran continued for the seventh consecutive day. IAEA said that the attacks of the plant, especially the distillation unit, were damaged in this attack. IAEA had earlier said that there was no loss after the attack, but now the latest investigation revealed that some important buildings of the Kondab plant were destroyed. However, the rest of Iran’s nuclear sites, such as Natanj and Isfahan, were no harm.

Nuclear threat is not yet, but concern continues

IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Gossi said that since the Khondab reactor is not working yet and there is no nuclear material in it, there is currently no danger of radiological accident. But he warned that nuclear material is present in many places in Iran, causing the risk of spreading radioactive particles in the air in the future. Groxy said that Iran should give correct and timely information about its nuclear sites. This will make it easier for the International Community to monitor the situation and help in an emergency. He also stated that IAEA is also in constant contact with other countries amid growing tension in the Middle East.

Heavy water reactor of Khondab is still under construction

Israel has claimed that it has attacked Natanj, Isfahan, Arak and Tehran’s nuclear sites. Heavy water -making plant near Kondab also targeted, which may be used to make plutonium. Plutonium and uranium are necessary to make nuclear bombs. The heavy water reactor of Khondab (Arak) is still being built and is not working completely. This plant makes heavy water, used in nuclear reactors. The attack has raised questions on Iran’s nuclear program, as the tension between Israel and Iran is continuously increasing. IAEA has appealed to all parties to exercise restraint and give priority to nuclear security, so that a major accident can be avoided. (With inputs from AP)
