Jagdeep Dhankhar has resigned from the post of Vice President in the midst of the monsoon session starting today. Dhankhar has submitted his resignation to President Draupadi Murmu. In his resignation, Dhankar has cited health reasons.
Emphasis on priority of health care
In his resignation sent to President Draupadi Murmu, he said, “According to Article 67 (A) of the Constitution, I resign from the post of Vice President of India with immediate effect to give priority to health care and to follow the doctor’s advice.”
Economic progress and unprecedented development saw in tenure
In a letter sent to the President, Dhankhar also said that it is a matter of good luck and satisfaction to see and participate in India’s remarkable economic progress and unprecedented development while being the Vice President. At the same time, Dhankhar said that serving in this transformative era of the history of the nation is a true honor.
He was admitted to the hospital due to chest pain
Let us know that Jagdeep Dhankar was admitted to the Critical Care Unit (CCU) of the Cardiac Department at AIIMS, Delhi on 9 March 2025 after complaining of chest pain and discomfort. Then his position was stated to be stable. He was discharged from the hospital on 12 March.
Jagdeep Dhankhar has also been the Governor of West Bengal
Jagdeep Dhankhar was the Governor of West Bengal before becoming Vice President. Dhankar was appointed as the 29th Governor of West Bengal on 30 July 2019. Prior to this, he was an experienced lawyer and MP and MLA from Rajasthan.
Dhankhar conflict with Mamta several times
Jagdeep Dhankhar was also confronted several times with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and his Trinamool Congress (TMC) government. CM Mamta Banerjee accused her of acting at the behest of the central government. The dispute between Mamta and Dhankhar was also in the news.
