Moscow: Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar met Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on the third day of his Moscow visit. Dr. S. Jaishankar said, “We are not Russia’s largest oil buyer, it is China. We are not even the largest LNG (liquid natural gas) buyer, it is the European Union. After 2022, we are not even the highest trade growth country with Russia; I think we are in the south. Some countries are in the south. We are the countries where Americans are saying that we have been saying that we have to buy the world energy market for the last few years. By the way, we also buy oil from America and have increased its quantity. Therefore, we do not understand the argument that you (media) mentioned … “
Russia-Ukraine war also discussed
In a joint press conference with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavarov, India’s Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar said, “… We discussed development in Ukraine, West Asia, Middle East and Afghanistan on regional issues. India’s approach continuously emphasizes that dialogue and diplomacy are necessary to resolve differences.”
India will increase business of agriculture, pharma and textiles from Russia
Jaishankar said, “We confirmed our shared ambition to increase bilateral trade in a balanced and durable manner, including India to increase exports to Russia. This requires rapid removing non-fee obstacles and regulatory bottlenecks. It is necessary to rapidly remove non-fee obstacles and regulatory hurdles. Increasing India’s exports in areas like agriculture, pharma and textiles will definitely help in improving this trade imbalance.”
Defense cooperation will be strengthened
Jaishankar said, “Our defense and military-technical cooperation also remains strong. Russia supports India’s ‘Make in India’ target, including joint production and technology transfer.”
Raised the issue of Indians serving in Russian Army
Jaishankar said that during a conversation with Lavarov, “The issue of Indians serving in the Russian army has been released. Although many have been released, some cases are still pending and some are missing. We hope that the Russian side will resolve these cases quickly.”
