This is Jaishankar’s first visit to China in the last 5 years. Jaishankar will attend a meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Foreign Ministers at Tianjin on Tuesday, and will also hold bilateral talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

After this meeting, which took place on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Russia, it was said from China that it was ready to implement the consensus between the two leaders on important issues. At the meeting, PM Modi underlined the importance of disposing of differences and disputes properly, maintaining peace and stability in the border areas. He had said that mutual trust, respect and sensitivity of each other should remain the basis of relationships. At the same time, Xi had said that China-India relations depend on how the two big developing countries treat each other. He had said that China and India should maintain good perception towards each other. The two countries should work together.

India-China relations are stable

It is also worth noting that, in the last few years, there has been a lot of stability in relations between India and China. In such an environment, this journey of External Affairs Minister Jaishankar can become an important initiative towards meaningful dialogue between the two countries. Recently, he had said that both China and India are emerging. He had said that the economic and political models of India and China are quite different, so there are concerns, some may think that these differences will harm each other.

Change situation after fum

Let me tell you that after the military clashes in the Galwan Valley in June 2020, relations between India and China reached a lower level. The clash was the most horrific military clash between the two sides in the last few decades. After this clash, India and China agreed to start patrolling, including removal of soldiers from other places in East Ladakh. The agreement was seen as a major success towards resolving military deadlock in eastern Ladakh for almost four years. The special representative mechanism between the two countries was established in 2003. Since then, 20 rounds of talks have been held between the two sides.

Russia has also indicated

Recently, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov also made a big statement about the relations between India and China. Lavarov had hoped that Russia-India-China trilateral dialogue would start soon, citing signs of improvement in relations between India and China. Lavrov also said that so far this group has held more than 20 ministerial meetings not only at the level of foreign ministers, but also at the level of other economic, trade and financial agencies of the three countries.
