Given the increasing number of incidents of stray dog attacks and death due to rabies, which has increased. On Monday, August 11, the Supreme Court ordered the officials to keep these stray dogs in the shelter home, where they will be vaccinated. Now many people are protesting this strict order of the court. There has been a sharp debate on social media. In this regard, now actor John Abraham wrote a letter to Chief Justice BR Gawai on Tuesday, August 12, requesting the Supreme Court review and amend the recent directives to remove stray dogs from the Delhi-NCR region. The letter came by the Supreme Court to pick up all stray dogs from the streets as soon as possible to shift to the shelter home.
John Abraham showed concern for stray dogs
‘Tehran’ actor John Abraham, appointed the first honorary director of People’s for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India, said that dogs are not stray, but part of the community and many people love him. He further wrote, ‘I hope you will agree that they are not stray, but community dogs, which many people respect, feed and love them. Especially the people of Delhi who explain them part of the society, not stray dogs. The actor also said that this instruction is completely opposite to the previous decisions of the Supreme Court on the Animal Birth Control (ABC) Rules, 2023 and the issue. John says, ‘According to ABC rules, dogs are not kept in any shelter home. Instead, after their sterilization and vaccination, they leave them back to the areas where they live. Where the ABC rule is honestly implemented. ‘ It also said that the same rules have been adopted in cities like Jaipur and Lucknow.
The actor told how the dog bite problem can be reduced
He further said, ‘Delhi can do the same. During sterilization, dogs are vaccinated with rabies and animals become calm after sterilization, the incidence of quarrels and bite is less. Since community dogs are regional, they also prevent dogs without sterilization, without vaccination from entering their area. ‘ According to John Abraham, removing stray dogs from public places does not solve the problem. There are estimated 1 million dogs in Delhi. It is neither practical nor human, and the removal of all of them, and the removal of them opens the way for the arrival of dogs coming out, and without vaccinated dogs – which increases competition, regional disputes and public health risk.
Supreme court order on stray dogs
The actor said, “I respectfully request a review and amendment of this decision to adopt a legitimate, human and effective ABC approach which is correct.” Respecting constitutional values, we should also think about stray dogs while protecting public health. One such approach that has been continuously retained by the Supreme Court since 2015. Explain that the court has directed Delhi officials to start the work of building a shelter home for about 5,000 dogs.
