Judge Cash scandal: Lok Sabha constituted a 3 -member committee on the proposal to remove Justice Verma

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has announced the formation of a three -member committee on a proposal to impeach Justice Yashwant Verma. The three -member committee has included the Supreme Court, the High Court and a legalist. In this committee, Justice Arvind Kumar, Justice Maninder Mohan Srivastava and legalist B.V. Acharya’s name is included.
MPs demanded impeachment motion
Last month, Lok Sabha MPs submitted a memorandum to the Lok Sabha Speaker demanding a motion of impeachment against Justice Verma. It included MPs from Congress, BJP, TDP, JDU and other parties. Along with this, on the basis of the report of the inquiry committee, the then CJI Sanjeev Khanna wrote a letter to President Draupadi Murmu and PM Modi recommended impeachment against Justice Verma.
Burned cash was recovered from home
Justice Yashwant Verma Cash scandal is a high-profile case. This includes Justice Yashwant Verma, Judge of Allahabad High Court. The case started with a fire at his government residence in Delhi on 14 March 2025, when a large amount of burnt cash was recovered from there. At that time Justice Verma was working in the Delhi High Court.
Transfer was done to Allahabad
Following this dispute, Justice Verma was transferred from Delhi High Court to Allahabad High Court on 28 March 2025. He was also removed from judicial works. Since then, he has been targeted by opposition leaders. This issue also arose in the Lok Sabha.
