10 rules of Kavad Yatra:

1. Pure thoughts and conduct: During the journey, there should not be malice, jealousy or negative thoughts towards anyone. Maintain purity in speech and deeds as well.

2. Touching without bathing: After bathing after taking defecation, it is not considered auspicious to touch Kavad again without bathing. It is mandatory to bathe before touching Kavad every time.

3. Reconciliation of meat, alcohol and tamasic food: Kanwariya should take a full sattvic diet. Any type of non -vegetarian food, alcohol, tobacco, paan, gutkha or any other intoxication during the Kavand Yatra are strictly prohibited.

4. Do not place Kavad on the ground: It is one of the most important and harsh rules. Kavad should never be kept directly on the ground. If you have to stop for defecation etc., always keep Kavad in a high place, on a tree branch or on a stand. If Kavad is placed on the ground even once, the water brought is considered to be impure and the devotee has to start a journey to fill Ganga water again.

5. Do not move to the head: Kavad should not be kept on the head. It is always kept on the shoulder.
6. only Ganga water: Only the holy water of the Ganges river should be filled in Kavad, no other water.

7. Leather touch forbidden: The touch of anything (eg belt, purse, shoes) made of leather (eg belt, purse, shoes) during the Kavad Yatra is considered taboo.

8. Barefoot travel: Most of the kanwadis travel barefoot. It is a symbol of sacrifice and penance. However, some devotees now also use slippers or shoes, but should be traditionally walked barefoot.

9. Height limit: The height of Kavad should not exceed the prescribed range (usually 12 feet), so that there is no accidents with electrical wires.

10. Bol-bomb’s cheer: During the yatra, you should continue chanting Shiva mantras like ‘Bol-Bamb’, ‘Har-Har Mahadev’ or ‘Jai Jai Shiva Shankar’. This keeps the journey energetic and concentrates the mind.

By following these rules, you can make your Kavad Yatra successful, virtuous and safe. May the blessings of Lord Bholenath remain on you! Also Read: Monday of Sawan month is starting in 2025, know Shravan Mass Date and Pooja Time
