About 527 Indian soldiers were martyred and more than 1300 were injured in this war. This action of Indian security forces was carried out under “Operation Vijay”.
Kargil Victory Day is celebrated every year on 26 July to remember the sons who sacrificed for Mother India and celebrate India’s victory. This year India is celebrating its 26th Kargil Victory Day. This day is reminiscent of the sacrifice, courage and patriotism of Indian soldiers.
How long did the Kargil war go on and how it started?
The Kargil War lasted from May to July in 1999. The war began in 1999 when the Pakistani Army and intruders crossed the Line of Control (LoC) in Kargil district of Jammu and Kashmir in May 1999 and infiltrated the Indian territory. The infiltration began after winter when snow began to melt and monitoring the Indian Army posts was low, as the two countries normally reduce military activities in the height areas in winter.
In May 1999, local shepherds informed the Indian Army that there were suspicious activities in the high mountainous areas of Kargil, such as Dras, Batalik, and Mushkoh Valley. It was initially considered a small -level intrusion but was a planned action by the Pakistani Army and their supported terrorists.
Action under Operation Vijay and Operation White Sea
The Indian Army also started Operation Vijay and the Indian Air Force also started Operation White Sea to get rid of sixes of Pakistani soldiers. In the inaccessible hilly areas of Kargil, there was a war under difficult conditions. In which India won and Pakistan had to kneel.
The soldiers of India gave a befitting reply to Pakistan in icy weather and difficult hilly areas. This road was not easy for Indian soldiers as Pakistan soldiers were targeting Indian soldiers with high peaks, but the Indian bravemen, regardless of their lives, killed Pakistani soldiers and achieved fate.
County heroes like Captain Vikram Batra, Lieutenant Manoj Kumar Pandey, on the strength of their might gave a befitting reply to Pakistan and were martyred for Mother India.
