Karnataka- Congress MLA KC Virendra arrested by ED

Congress MLA KC Virendra from Karnataka was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) from Sikkim on Saturday. Virendra has been arrested under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). He is accused of illegal online and offline betting.

The ED raided Virendra’s locations on Friday. During the raid, the investigating agency received Rs 12 crore cash and 6 crore gold jewelery. Along with this, one crore foreign currency has also been recovered. Four vehicles have also been seized.

KC Virendra is an MLA in the Chitradurga Assembly of Karnataka. It is reported that the MLA has a stake in the casino business in Goa. He owns about five casinos, including the famous puppy casino.

In the last 8 days in Karnataka, two Congress MLAs have come under Shinkje. Earlier on August 14, ED seized Rs 1.41 crore from the house of Karnataka Congress MLA Satish Krishna Sail.

ED had recovered 6.75 kg of gold jewelery and biscuits from his and family bank lockers.

The ED said that apart from cash and gold found in the search, bank accounts with ₹ 14.13 crore deposited have also been freed and many important documents, e-mails and records have also been seized. Sail is an MLA from Karwar assembly seat in North Kannada district.

The case is related to export of illegal iron ore in 2010. Cell is alleged to have sent out about 1.25 lakh metric tonnes of iron in a unique manner, along with other companies and officials of Belkeri Port, which has been stated to be ₹ 86.78 crore.

A team of 12 officers of the ED raided the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) office on 18 October 2024 against Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The ED also searched the Muda Commissioner Raghunandan and the office of Special Land Exhibition. CM Siddaramaiah has been accused of disturbances in allotment of 14 sites to his wife Parvati from Muda.
