The CSIS report clearly states that since the 1980s, the Khalistani militants in Canada have been carrying out violent activities to create a separate Khalistan nation in Punjab, India. These militants are making Canada a base for their activities, from where they work to promote violence, raise funds and plan attacks. The activities of Khalistanis remain a threat to Canada’s national security and India’s interests. India has to keep an eye on these Khalistanis active in Canada for its safety.
Use of insurgency for Khalistani groups
The special feature of this report is that Canada has officially used the term insurgency for the first time to Khalistani groups. Earlier, the Canadian government used to take this issue very lightly.
