Kishtwar disaster- 65 bodies recovered, 40 identity: 200+ missing, 500 people
Today is the third day of search-ration in Chasoti village of Kishtwar district in Jammu and Kashmir. The cloud was cracked here at 12.25 pm on August 14. Due to this, 65 people have died so far due to being buried in the debris. So far 34 bodies have been identified. More than 500 people have been rescued, while 200 people are still missing.
The number of injured is 180, of which 40 are in critical condition. All the injured have been admitted to hospitals in Kishtwar-Jammu. His family has given details of 75 people to the administration. In the rescue, 3 NDRF teams, Army (300+ jawans), White Night Core Medical Team, Police, SDRF and other agencies are engaged in rescue.
CM Omar Abdullah of Jammu and Kashmir reached Chasoti today. He met the disaster victims and assured them of all possible help. On this, a person told him- we do not want anything, you all take your house, just give us deadbody. My mother-Mususy is missing.
The young man alleged that 20 JCBs have come here, we have been seeing since yesterday that only 2 JCBs are working. If you came today, they were started. JCB is turned on when a leader arrives.
The accident happened when thousands of devotees reached Chasoti village in the Paddar Sub-Division of the district for Machail Mata Yatra. This is the first stop of the journey. There were buses, tents, anchors and many shops of devotees here. Everything was washed away in the flood.
The Chashoti is about 90 km from Kishtwar city and the first village on the way to Machail Mata Temple. This place is in the Paddar Valley, which is 14–15 kilometers inside. The mountains of this area range from 1,818 meters to 3,888 meters high. At such a height there are glaciers (snow sheets) and slopes, which intensify the flow of water.
The Machail Mata pilgrimage takes place every year in August. Thousands of devotees come in it. It will run from 25 July to 5 September. This route is 210 km long from Jammu to Kishtwar and can be trains on a 19.5 km road from Paddar to Chasoti. It is then a walk of 8.5 km.
