Former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari Death: Former Nigeria President Muhammadu Buhari has passed away. Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the demise of former Nigeria President Muhammadu Buhari and praised his unwavering commitment to friendship with India. Buhari, who led Nigeria twice as a military chief and democratic president, has died in London. Buhari was undergoing treatment here. He was 82 years old.

In his condolence message on ‘X’, PM Modi said, “The death of former Nigeria President Muhammadu Buhari has been deeply saddened. I miss our meetings and conversations on various occasions. His intelligence, warmth and unbreakable commitment to India-Niger friendship was special. “I express my heartfelt condolences to Buhari’s family, Nigeria’s people and the government there,” the Prime Minister said.

Muhammadu Buhari was a leading politician, former military ruler and President of the country twice. Buhari was born on 17 December 1942 in Dora in Katseena state to Admu and Julaha Buhari. President Buhari was raised by his mother, when he was about four years old, his father died. Muhammadu Buhari’s military career was very impressive. He served in the Nigerian Army from 1966 to 1985 and led in various military operations.
Mohammadu Buhari’s political journey
Muhammadu Buhari became the Petroleum Minister in 1975 under the rule of General Mutala Muhammad. In 1983, he took power in a military coup against corruption and chaos and was a military ruler of Nigeria from 1983 to 1985. His rule was known for strict laws against harsh discipline, censorship on media and corruption. Buhari adopted a democratic route after military rule and became active in politics. In 2003, 2007 and 2011 contested for the presidency, but suffered defeat. In 2015, the All Progressives Congress (APC) won the election on the party ticket and became the 15th President of Nigeria. He became President for the second consecutive time by winning the election again in 2019.
